Movies that are actually better than the book?
« on: March 09, 2010, 10:18:05 PM »
Here's a top ten list.  My mum is gonna be pissed about #7.

The only movie that I thought remotely ever came close to being better than the book was "Silence of the Lambs" and that what mostly on casting alone.

The only ones on that list that I can really comment on are Fear and Loathing and Bridges of Madison County, since those are the only ones where I've seen the movie and read the book.

I'd agree with Bridges but it's really close.  I actually got to the sad part during my one and only detention, which is pretty much the only reason I was able to hold it together and not cry.  They did a good job with the movie because from what I recall, they followed the book pretty closely but kind of developed the characters more.

Hell no on Fear and Loathing.  I had to re-read the title of the article three times because I couldn't believe that they actually had that on the list.  I just...hell no.  The very thing that makes the book so great is that it's so abstract and truly makes your imagination race.  I can't even tell you the dreams I had when I was reading that book.  But the movie, in my opinion, was pretty cheesy by comparison.

And, I'm voting for Jurassic Park.  Because I love that movie, I don't care what anyone says.  It's brilliant.  You just have to forget the hype and the sequels and just watch it for what it is.  The book was great but nothing, and I mean nothing, can match the T-rex attack scene from the movie.  I swear, it'll come on at 2:30 in the afternoon on HBO and my heart still feels like it's about to jump out of my chest.

Now I feel like watching it...

Kinda embarrassed that I read this but "A Walk To Remember" the movie was better in my opinion. Granted neither were what you would great by any means but the movie had more depth and character development.
