NFL Playoffs
« on: January 14, 2010, 11:43:19 AM »
Well, looks like my dream of a Jets Packers Superbowl isn't going to happen.  That would have probably been one of my favorite moments in all of sports history.

So now, I guess I like the Colts and the Saints, but that just sounds so cliche.  But I love Manning and I love Brees, so there ya go.

This week, I'm hoping Dallas, Indy, and New Orleans win, and the stadium where the Chargers and Jets are playing spontaneously combusts.

Bottom line, anyone but Fav-re.

I can't stand Favre!! I know that he is a really good quarterback and all, but I think he should have just stayed retired. Not a big chargers fan either. The stadium could blow and I wouldn't blink an eye. As far as the cliche, sounds great. I don't think it will happen though. Too perfect. I was actually hoping that cincinatti would have beat the Jets two weeks ago. Then the texans would have made the playoffs. Their program seems to get stronger every year.

I'm an anyone but Dallas or NE.  So here's how I roll:
Ravens + Indy = Colts all the way
NY + SD = Chargers, I guess and that's only because that's my husband's team

Cards + NO = I love that Warner is playing but do like NO, so don't care who wins this one
Dallas + Vikings = Go Vikings Go!

Lets Go Colts!!!!

I'm a well documented Colts fan...grew up there through the jeff george, jack tradeau, gary hogaboom, etc. era.  God were they terrible.  Its all about them winning now.  Peyton was the savior and just on super bowl is not nearly enough for the greatest quarterback to ever play the game.  He deserves another title and this is the year.  It was fucking stupid to sit the starters and not go for the perfect record, but what's done is done.  Now its time to regroup and win 3 in a row.  Go Horse!

I think your colts would still be undefeated if they would have kept the starters in. But like you said,"What's done is done."

Still bitter about that.  I would have won my work fantasy league easily if Manning would have stayed in that game.

But, I can't hate Peyton, I just can't.

(And, OK...as a Phins fan, I wasn't exactly devastated to see the perfect season go away...)

Vikings + Colts final would be fantastic.  Not that I don't like Brees, but I love that Favre has proved assholes who mocked him, like me, wrong.

I'm disappointed about the Chargers.

I heart me some Peyton.

Ok, what are everyone's picks for tomorrow?

Definitely Colts over the Jets.

I can't choose between the Vikings and Saints.  Both teams have so much going for them.  It seems wrong to cheer one over the other.

Colts and Saints.  Archie's nightmare.  That's the superbowl.

The Jets have been playing well lately, but they are playing tomorrow solely because other teams have let them get here.  The Colts and Bengals laid down for them to allow them to even make the playoffs in the first place.  The Chargers last week played absolutly terrible and beat themselves.  They dropped passes, had tons of penalties, and turned the ball over too many times.  Yet, they still only lost by 3.  The only way the Jets win is if the Colts play awful.  Which, is possible but unlikely.  It could happen, but I doubt it.  Colts 27 Jets 13.

The other game could be a tight one, but I think the Saints roll.  The Vikings struggled mightily on the road at the end of the season.  They had the likes of Jay "human turnover machine" Cutler and Matt "I'm lucky to even be playing in the NFL" Moore pass for hundreds of yards and multiple touchdowns against them.  Now they get Drew "I'm this close to being a hall of famer" Brees?  It could get real ugly.  I'm rooting for the vikes, but I just don't see it.  Saints 38 Vikings 17.

Few thoughts:
I just read Akak's post in the Swami's voice definitely.

Good call on the Colts score.

I still can't decide and we're into the first quarter.

Well that was a hell of a game.  I am disappointed I think.  Mostly I have a heavy dislike for NFL overtime rules.  I much prefer how the CFL does it.  It seems like a waste of a great game to go to overtime and essentially have it decided by a coin toss.

The vikes put up a hell of a fight.  But Brett Farve happened and took away a chance at the win.  Passing the ball there was a terrible decision, but there's a reason he has the record for most interceptions.  At least give your team a chance at a long FG to win.  The OT rules suck, and I wish they'd change them, but for now, it is what it is and NO gets the win.  Closer than I thought though.

As for my Colts, it started bad, but they turned it on in the 2nd half.  NYJ had less than 100 yards rushing.  They ain't winning with that stat.  Props to my boys-they got down and didn't panic (not surprising) and grinded out a big win.

Colts-Saints Super Bowl is interesting.  The game could really go either way.  Two great offenses-I'd give a slight nod to the Saints.  However, I'd give the nod to the Colts on D.  It could really come down to QB play and we got two great ones to watch.  Not sure on my pick yet...got two weeks to break it down (eventhough I know I'm picking the Colts, but I've been a fan all my life so that'd be expected).

Go Colts go!

As an aside, the other rule I strongly dislike in the NFL is that stupid "fair catch".  I hate it and it slows the game down for no reason.  If you're returning then you get certain yardage and after that you better run cause everyone is coming for you.  That's much better and much more exciting.  However, the CFL needs smaller endzones like the NFL, now that's exciting stuff.

Back on topic, GO COLTS GO!
